AREAS OF CARE
Proceeds from the 2025 Throwdown will be used to support the following areas of care at St. Joe’s.

THE MYHAL FAMILY BIRTHING CENTRE
THE MYHAL FAMILY BIRTHING CENTRE
The Family Birthing Center at St. Joseph’s delivers just over 2900 babies each year; an average of 8 West End babies a day! Together with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and our multi-disciplinary team of specialists, we are able to care for your family no matter the risk or complexity, allowing more families to remain and receive high-quality specialized care within our community.
We’re working to ensure that our bright, family centred space is equipped with the latest technology, so that our families receive the very best obstetrical care. The Throwdown will support the purchase of equipment such as an ultrasound machine, which allows patients in our high risk pregnancy unit and our in-patient unit to have their scans in the same area as they receive care.
OPHTHALMOLOGY
OPHTHALMOLOGY
St. Joseph’s Health Centre is recognized for excellence in patient eye care and teaching. In 2023, we provided care for over 7500 patients (including 1200 emergencies, over 2000 retina and glaucoma patients and 500 children), and we performed over 3200 cataract and glaucoma surgeries for patients in our community.
An important diagnostic tool is the Optos wide-field imaging system, which provides a detailed image of the entire retina, and is safe and effective for both adults and children. The St. Joe’s Neighbourhood Throwdown will help to fund the purchase of this machine, supporting state of the art eye care and maintaining our centre of excellence in Ophthalmology for our community.
THE FRACTURE AND ORTHOPAEDIC CLINIC
THE FRACTURE AND ORTHOPAEDIC CLINIC
The Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic at St. Joe’s provides consultation, fracture management and surgical follow-up care for all age groups. This is the hospital’s busiest ambulatory clinic, with an average of over 120 patients every day. The fundraiser will continue to support the great care they provide to our community.
